Despite the fact that over 1.7 million children in the United States are known to have chronic pain and that the cost of treating this pain is almost 20 billion dollars per year, chronic pain remains an invisible and under-recognized health problem for kids and teens.
Chronic pain also often includes a tremendous psychological and social burden; children with ongoing pain regularly miss school, are unable to participate in activities.
Our Purpose
To increase the social and emotional learning capacity of children and families impacted by chronic pain. By improving physical health and mental well-being, we strive to reduce the levels of anxiety, depression, isolation, poor self-concept, poor self-expression, opioid dependence, and the risk of suicide through interactive and experiential learning.
We are curious about ourselves.
We value reflecting on who we are.
We value being our truest selves.
We respect all forms of expression.
We show up and take action.
1 in 4 children under the age of 18 suffer from chronic pain. CEO & Founder Karen Prescod knows their struggles and challenges all too well. Amid her chronic pain journey, she envisioned creating a place to support their needs and improve the lives of children and young adults (5-21) living with chronic pain and their families.
We provide enrichment programming to Increase children’s social and emotional learning capacity impacted by chronic pain. Our enrichment programs are all designed to create an environment of exploration, discovery, acceptance, and empowerment. Our goals are to promote self-efficacy, foster the development of resiliency and cultivate an awareness of self and others.
Using our 5 Empowerment Principles (Self-Discovery, Self-Awareness, Self-Worth, Self-Expression, and Social Engagement & Advocacy), we create the space for participants to create shifts in thinking to change conversations to WHO THEY ARE, not what they suffer from or what condition or illness they have.
